Lanna Lantern Making

We'd love to share one of our favorite Northern traditions with you!

To celebrate Yi Peng, we're inviting you to spend a slow and crafty morning at Mitt Studio making your very own Lanna lantern. These are the hanging lanterns you'll see strung along temple walls and outside homes across Northern Thailand throughout the festival, not the floating kind that drift up into the sky. You'll take yours home to hang for the season, just like families here have done for generations.

We'll be walking you through it step by step, working with bamboo, rice paper, foil, and glue. Pick from our selection of colors and patterns and take home something completely your own. Yi Peng is all about welcoming light and good fortune in and letting go of the year's bad luck — so whatever you make, you're really making a little wish for brighter days ahead.

Our studio is bright and light-filled, with soft traditional music playing while you work. Come solo for some peaceful me-time, bring a date, or gather your favorite people. Spend the morning crafting with us, then head out into the city with your lantern in hand to enjoy the festival celebrations.
